In many countries, dial-a-ride services are provided by public authorities to elderly and handicapped people who cannot use
regular transit. Cost minimization is key to running these services, but one can observe a growing interest in quality measurement
and improvement. A first step in improving quality is to define a quality measurement scale specific to dial-a-ride services.
A second step is to incorporate quality measurements in mathematical models that serve as a basis for optimization algorithms.
To this end, an extensive survey of dial-a-ride users was conducted in Longueuil, the largest suburb of Montreal, Canada.
This paper describes the steps of the survey and presents its main conclusions: (1) 56 attributes were identified based on
interviews, (2) the questionnaire developed has proved to be reliable and valid, (3) an exploratory factor analysis allowed
us to determine 13 dimensions of quality in dial-a-ride services, (4) the most important criteria for users were identified,
and (5) population segmenting variables by which subgroups of users can be categorized were also determined. Managerial implications

European hake (Merluccius merluccius) female size at maturity is estimated on an annual basis for Bay of Biscay and Galician coast, which are parts of the distribution of the Northern and Southern stocks, respectively. Clear trends in this reproductive parameter are observed along the time series and the potential factors affecting these trends have been investigated. Total biomass, different indexes of SSB, age diversity index, fishing mortality at age, NAO winter index, upwelling index and temperature were included in multiple regressions models to assess the relative importance of each of them on shifts in size at maturity.Bay of Biscay and Galician coast hake have followed different evolution in patterns of changes in size at maturity. In Bay of Biscay, a steadily decline of 15 cm has been observed from 1987 to 2004, which is well predicted by fishing mortality and age diversity, but also the environment may have played an important role. However, on the Galician coast a drastic decline of 16 cm from 1980 to 1988 was followed by a rapid increase in size at maturity during the next 10 years to original values and a stable period in the last 6 years. Decreasing biomass may explain the decline in size at maturity in the first period. However, total biomass and spawning biomass declined even during the period when size at maturity increased, which is contrary to compensatory theory. Shifts in environmental regime, NAO and upwelling, may have contributed to a decelerated growth during this period that might explain the later maturation. 相似文献

Underwater gliders are recent innovative types of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) used in ocean exploration and observation. They adjust their buoyancy to dive and to return to the ocean surface. During the change of altitude, they use the hydrodynamic forces developed by their wings to move forward. Their flights are controlled by changing the position of their centers of gravity and their buoyancy to adjust their trim and heel angles. For better flight control, the understanding of the hydrodynamic behavior and the flight mechanics of the underwater glider is necessary. A 6-DOF motion simulator is coupled with an unsteady potential flow model for this purpose. In some specific cases, the numerical study demonstrates that an inappropriate stabilizer dimension can cause counter-steering behavior. The simulator can be used to improve the automatic flight control. It can also be used for the hydrodynamic design optimization of the devices. 相似文献

In Niamey, private motor vehicles carry 80% of those who use public transport. These vehicles are urban shared taxis called ‘redheads’ and run through the streets of the city in all directions. Their vital importance for the mobility of city‐dwellers justifies their strict supervision and the setting of fares by public authorities. At present, the ‘redheads’ are in crisis. Taxi owners are no longer able to make a profit on their capital and are ceasing to invest. Urban buses are unable to replace taxis, for they operate at a large deficit. The government of Niger hopes to restore the level of transport service by means of new regulations for the taxi business in the city. But this business is in the hands of both taxi owners and drivers, who, while partners in the operation, dispute over their share of the revenues. The aim of this article is to provide an economic and political analysis of this particular form of production of urban transport, in which employers who cannot control their companies, employees who reserve the profits of the business for themselves, and public authorities who are compelled to intervene, are coming face to face. 相似文献

This article deals with a generic approach called VirMaLab (virtual maintenance laboratory) for reliabilitybased maintenance modeling for complex systems (with multi-components and multi-states). Based on the probabilistic graphical models formalism (also known as Bayesian networks), this stochastic approach takes into account both the degradation process of the considered system (an original semi-Markovian model is proposed) and maintenance strategies (from diagnosis factors to all kinds of maintenance actions). For complete decision support tools, cost parameters should also be considered (maintenance actions, unavailability of the system, running, etc.). In this article, two applications of this approach to rail maintenance are introduced. The first one focuses on the optimization of the compromise refurbishment/repairing of central part of the RER A line. The second one focuses on the comparison and evaluation of various maintenance strategies in the modernization of the command control systems of Paris metro lines. 相似文献
