There is significant reliance on sustainable transport indicators for monitoring and reporting progress towards sustainable transport. The selection of appropriate sustainability indicators presents a number of challenges however, not least because of the vast number of potential indicators available. To help address these challenges, this paper presents the Evaluative and Logical Approach to Sustainable Transport Indicator Compilation (ELASTIC) – a framework for identifying and selecting a small subset of sustainable transport indicators. An optical tire contact pressure test bench developed by the IMMa group is described. The measurement system is based on the frustration of total internal reflection (FTIR) of light. The test bench allows performing normal pressure distribution and patch contact shape measurements on passenger car tires. The system is based on the use of a laterally illuminated glass on which the tire leans. Between them a plastic interphase is located that will cause the FTIR of light. A video camera catches the formed shining image through the glass. The brightness level in each pixel of the image can be related to the existing normal pressure. The study of the contact patch provided by the bench makes it possible to characterize tire behaviour under different loading states, inflation pressure, tire defects and toe and camber angles. The bench incorporates a computerized load and control system of the tire operation parameters, an image acquisition module and a data acquisition system that allow monitoring and acting on the experimental variables of interest in the tests such as load on the tire and environmental conditions. A supporting mechanical system incorporated to the bench allows providing the tire with variable toe and camber angles. From the images obtained with this system, the maximum normal pressure points, total force, size and shape of the patch can be determined, which are related to the tire-use conditions. As an application example, results that show the patch size and shape under different load and tire inflation pressures are presented. A further application, which is the use of the system for the detection and study of defective tires is also presented.  相似文献

Optimization for Vehicle Suspension II: Frequency Domain   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
The objective of this study is optimizing the components design of a vehicle suspension system under excitation due to road roughness. The vehicle is modelled as a dynamic system made of masses interconnected by, linear, springs and dampers. The optimizing code provides values corresponding to the caracteristics of masses, dampers and springs which, within a range, minimize the objective function for a defined excitation. This objective function auantifies the vehicle comfort level.

The optimization method used is the sequential linear programming by iteratively applying the Simplex algorithm. The model response is obtained in frequency domain and the vehicle excitation can be either random or deterministic.

The exact nature of the optimization problem, objective function and restrictions, depend on the type of excitation considered.

The paper deals with the observability problem in traffic networks, including route, origin?Cdestination and link flows, based on number plate scanning and link flow observations. A revision of the main observability concepts and methods is done using a small network. Starting with the full observability of the network based only on number plate scanning on some links, the number of scanned links is reduced and replaced by counted link flows, but keeping the full observability of all flows in the network. In this way, the cost can be substantially reduced. To this end, several methods are given and discussed, and two small and one real case of networks are used to illustrate the proposed methodologies. Finally, some conclusions and final recommendations are included.  相似文献
