Transporting more than 55 million passengers per day, buses are the main transit mode in Brazil. Most of these vehicles use diesel oil and this situation causes dependence on oil, extensive greenhouse gas emissions and increasing air pollution in urban areas. In order to improve this situation the options for Brazilian cities include the use of alternative fuels and new propulsion technologies, such as hybrid vehicles. This article proposes a procedure for evaluating the performance of a recently developed Brazilian hybrid-drive technology. A simple procedure is presented to compare hybrid-drive buses with conventional diesel buses in urban operation focusing on fuel economy and the potential for reducing diesel oil consumption through the use of hybrid-drive buses. Field tests carried out by the authors indicate that fuel consumption improvement through the use of hybrid-drive buses would certainly exceed 20%, resulting in lower fuel costs and reduced carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.  相似文献

According to the Third Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Study 2014 of International Maritime Organization (IMO), the total emission in 2012 are estimated to be 949 million tonnes which is 2.7% of global CO2 emission by total shipping and expected to increase from 2012 levels by 50–250% by 2050. Significant changes are needed to all industry by implementation of energy efficiency design and operational measures to meet existing and future global emission reduction targets. Although the fuel cost-reducing effects of some energy efficiency measures and new technologies are well established and matured, shipping companies appear reluctant to adopt them. Besides, it is observed that the stakeholders are directly or indirectly involved for implementation of energy efficiency measures in shipping industry. Therefore, the objective for this study was to identify the barriers to energy efficiency operational measures by a qualitative survey among various stakeholders from all corners of shipping industry. It has been found in the research that the barriers for implementation of all cost-free operational measures are almost the same such as lack of information of the measure, lack of awareness and competence of ship crews and operation difficulties which are in nature of information and technical barriers. But financial issue and owner’s interest are the key barriers for some other operational measures which are related to costing and need investment for implementation.  相似文献

Fuel consumption has always been a matter of economic concern in road fleet management, giving rise to many initiatives aimed at fostering more efficient energy use. The increasingly awareness of environmental problems now requires these programs to include environmental aspects. A structured Eco-efficiency Management Program (EEMP) is proposed for road fleet operation, taking into account the traditional approach that strives to minimise fuel consumption as well as wider economic and environmental aspects. The EEMP has its potential evaluated in a case study undertaken for INFRAERO, Brazilian’s airport authority, on the operation of its road fleet supporting aircraft ground operations at Rio de Janeiro International Airport. The paper looks at EEMP’s implementation by identifying the program’s phases, its participants and their competencies, eco-efficiency indicators, and performance targets.  相似文献

Buses are the main transit mode in Brazil, transporting more than 55 million passengers per day. Most of these vehicles run on diesel oil causing a dependence on oil, extensive greenhouse gas emissions and increasing air pollution in urban areas. In order to improve this situation, options for Brazilian cities include the use of alternative fuels and new propulsion technologies, such as hybrid vehicles. This paper proposes a procedure for evaluating the performance of a recently developed hybrid‐drive technology. A simple procedure is presented to compare hybrid‐drive buses with conventional diesel buses in urban operations, particularly with respect to fuel economy. Next the potential for reducing diesel oil consumption through the use of hybrid‐drive buses is assessed. Field tests carried out by the authors indicate that fuel consumption improvement through the use of hybrid‐drive buses would certainly exceed 20%, resulting in lower fuel costs and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.  相似文献

A model is presented to describe the dynamics of transportation mode choice in which the interaction between transportation users and a public transportation authority results in self-organization. The model illustrates that a sufficient number of connections between a central city and its suburbs are required for self-organization to occur whereby public transportation use and service will grow.  相似文献

Mode choice under stochastically varying demand is studied via a dynamic mathematical model which describes the behavioural interactions between population groups. The model is developed by assuming competing attractivity functions for automobile and public transit which motivate their use subject to an overall demand for transportation. When this demand is allowed to vary stochastically, a set of stochastic differential equations describing the model are obtained. These are solved for their steady-state values. It is found that noisy demand can structure the system qualitatively differently than when the demand is fixed. The noise is found to generally reduce the level of public transit ridership, but it also changes the values of the threshold at which new regimes occur and, most interestingly, it induces new steady-state solutions for ridership at critical values of the variance of demand. In the latter case, noise becomes a source of new possibilities in the system by triggering a steady-state solution not present in the noise-free environment.  相似文献
