The purpose of this paper is to present an analysis of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of the world commercial fleet. The analysis is based on the Lloyds-Fairplay world ship database for 2007 and produces
various emissions statistics of the following major ship types: bulk carriers, crude oil tankers, container vessels, product/chemical
carriers, LNG carriers, LPG carriers, reefer vessels, Ro-Ro vessels and general cargo ships. A separate analysis is carried
out for small vessels under 400 GRT and for passenger vessels. The main outputs from this analysis for each ship type-size
bracket are the emitted grams of CO2 per tonne-km and an estimate of the total CO2 produced in a year. The methodology for estimating these statistics is described, and a comparison with other studies is

Abstract The significant increase in the adoption of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) for seaport efficiency measurement renders a literature synthesis and critical analysis of the application of the technique relevant and worthwhile. This paper provides a thorough review and critical analysis of the major studies undertaken to date, and highlights some problems and limitations in the application of the technique in the seaport context particularly in the specification of parameters, the sampling domain and the type of DEA to be applied. The paper informs the decision process as to the merits and limitations of DEA approaches for seaport efficiency measurement and makes a contribution towards methodological improvement by considering variations not yet applied to the port sector. 相似文献

Introducing High-Speed Rail services along the two main corridors in Greece is expected to change the total scene of interurban transport. The present paper considers the effects of the high-speed rail investment plan against this background. It applies a three-fold evaluation process in order to assess the transport potential and the economic and other impacts of the investment. We analyze the short- and long-run price performance of 143 global shipping IPOs listed during the 1984–2007 period in major stock exchanges, computing Buy-and-Hold Abnormal Returns (BHARs) and Cumulative Average Returns (CARs). We find the average underpricing for shipping IPOs to be 17.69%. The light underpricing is positively related to the age of the firm, the reputation of the stock exchange the IPO is listed in and the market condition of the period in which the firm went public, and negatively related to the reputation of the underwriters. In the long run, shipping IPOs underperform after a five-month holding period. Specifically, using the BHARs as a benchmark for long-run performance, we reveal that investors who buy immediately after listing and hold shares for 3 years will make a loss of 15.72%. The conclusions suggested by this survey of the global shipping industry surprises us regarding the maturity in the behavior of its investors. 相似文献

This study estimates airport noise annoyance cost around Düsseldorf, Germany by examining rental apartment market data. Using data on regional apartment offers we estimate rent discounts of 1.04% per additional decibel of airport noise. Other sources of traffic noise induce significantly lower price effects. As a result, airport noise annoyance costs amount to about €7.5 million a year. While the noise protection fund recovers annoyance costs, the charging regime of the airport fails to fully internalize them. 相似文献
