Optic Disc Vasculitis—Report of 63 Cases

Very few of these cases have been reported in the literature. This is because most of the cases were misdiagnosed due to their close resemblance to incipient central retinal vein occlusion or unilateral optic disc edema of obscure etiology, e. g. intracrainal or intraorbital hypertension, vascular hypertension or hypotension and ocular hypertension or hypotony. Sixtythree cases (81 eyes) wereencountered and analysed in our series. Optic disc vasculitis, like most cases of uveitis, seem to represent a nonspecific endogenous vasculitis. This may be due to an allergic reaction involving a wide variety of antigens. The vessels may become sensitized through an intraocular autigenic source or from an extraocular source, or possibly from the formation of complex auto-antibodies,
