Abstract:There are usually hinge joints in the deck of the simply-supported T beam bridge that is built up by the precast segmental construction method.In this paper,the techniques to remedy the longitudinal cracks in the deck of such type are studied.Based on the approach of a real bridge,a solid finite element model was developed by ANSYS to analyze the causes of longitudinal cracks in the deck,and cracking remedial measures were proposed.Simulation analysis was conducted to verify the applicability and effectiveness of the remedial measures.As per the analysis,the lateral connection stiffness of the shallow hinge joints is weak,under the action of local wheel loads of vehicles,the deck at the hinge joints bears excessive tensile stress,which propels the initiation of cracks on the periphery of hinge joint base,and the cracks gradually propagates to the surface of the deck pavement.In light of the causes of the cracks,specific measures were taken to improve the local and integral stiffness of the bridge,including reconstruct and repair the hinge joints,strengthening the minor prestressed cross beams and replacing the deck pavement.The application of these measures was also expected to alleviate the locally concentrated forces of the deck pavement at the hinge joints,improve the transverse integrity of the superstructure and allow the forces to be more uniformly distributed on the superstructure.After rehabilitation,the stresses in the deck pavement and T beam flanges of the approach bridge are significantly reduced,proving that the rehabilitation solution is appropriate and effective.
