ITS Design of Intersections: Dynamic Optimal Control Strategies for Oversaturated Intersections

Traffic congestion often happen at intersec- tions of urban roads. Many of intersections are in over- saturated conditions frequently. Traffic delay at an in- tersection has heavy proportion of travel times. This paper concerns traffic problems of oversaturated intersections, discusses ITS design problems of these intersections. The central content of ITS design for an oversaturated intersection is an optimal control strategy problem. Dynamic optimal control strategies are impor- tant methods of intelligent control for intersections. Dynamic optimal control strategies for oversaturated in- tersections are emphases of this paper.
