Outline of the practical fatigue assessment methods for the ship structures

The fatigue assessment of ship structures is one of the main research fields of ship mechanics. The common used fatigue assessment methods for ship structures are outlined in this paper. These practical methods for the fatigue assessment of ship structure are simplified method by classification society,spectral fatigue analysis method,design wave approach,fracture mechanics method and the reliability method which include the probabilistic S-N curve method and the probabilistic fracture mechanics method. First,each method is particularly discussed in some important technical details and the current treatment as well as the existing problem will be given in terms of the technical details. Finally,each method is generally summarized,the advantages or disadvantages of each method are pointed out and the research emphases of each method in the future are given.
