| Abstract: | From the perspective of diachronic linguistics, this paper on one hand elaborates the semantic change processes of words referring to female in English like lady, madam, woman, mother, sister, girl, queen, spinster, mistress, governess, hussy, quean, wench, tart etc, and on the other hand analyzes and probes the sexism reflected in the semantic degradation of words referring to female. |
