| Abstract: | It is shown that the positive definiteness of Liapunov function V is not necessary and the stability of a system can be determined by a function with indefinite sign, thus improving the Liapunov's stability theorem. The Lienard equation and the Hamiltonia system are taken as examples to show the applications of the extended theorems. |
