Abstract: | T-2 toxin (1. 5ing/kg feed) and sodium selenite (200ng/kg feed) were added Se-deficientfeed containing selenium 35ng/kg for Chinese minipigs in a period of 105 days. Pathological observationsand biochemical analyses were carried out on the articular cartilage of those minipigs. The resultsshowed that there was obvious zonal and patchychondronecrosis in the deep layer of articular cartilage in the T-2 toxin group, which was similar to thechondronecrotic lesions in the articular cartilage ofhuman Kashin-Beck disease. In addition, proteoglycans in the T-2 toxin group decreased compared withthe control, however, such changes were not found insc-deficient group. Selenium could alleviate theseventy of the lesion and ameliorate the metabolismof proteoglycans to some extent. These findings suggest that T-2 toxin has significant toxic effects onarticular cartilage and selenium has some protectiveeffects. |
