Vehicular Location and Smart Card in the Management of Highway Transportation

Based on the introduction of vehicular location methods and smart card technology, this paper discusses the issues surrounding vehicular location in highway transport management and smart card in fee collection of highway. It can improve the efficiency of transportation and enhance the security of vehicles by using vehicular location in freightage. Through mobile communication devices, management centers and mobile vehicles transfer data bi-directionally.Having known the vehicles’ position and statement information, management centers can attemper the vehicles and manage the cargo-flow better. Bases on the CPU in the smart card and the special COS(Card Operation System) for charge management of toll highway, it can achieve "One card for all" in the fee collection of highway.
