Welding Quality Control Of Offshore Steel Structures

Recent years, the higher prices of oil and gas have promoted the development of offshore oil industry. As the support structure of offshore oil and gas drilling and production platform, the construction amount of offshore steel structures increases year by year. Because of the severe service condition, the welding quality requirements of offshore steel structures are much stricter than ordinary steel structures. Moreover, with the oil and gas harvesting progressively stepped to deeper and colder waters, welding quality requirements get more and more strict. This paper reviews the structure type of offshore steel structures, the latest welding design principles and the quality control measures. It is important to understand how welding parameter affects welding quality, and the welding defects are the key to assure the welding quality of offshore steel structures.
