| Abstract: | The article discusses Hanslick's theory of the auto nomy of music, and analyes both the rational and unjustified aspects of his theo ry. It intends to define sources of different theories advocating autonomy or he teronomy in the Western history of musical aesthetics, and thus to improve the u nderstanding of Hanslick's theory by analyzing how his thoughts were formed. |
