Abstract:This paper expounds evaluation indicators for visibility of small targets comprehensive influencing visual reliability of drivers, expatiates test and calculation methods for visibility of small targets. Based on experimental study on recognition of small targets by HV sodium lamp and LED in 1 : 1 practical tunnel environment, the paper draws a conclusion: If difference of brightness levels is not large and the visibility of small targets is takes as evaluation indicator, the light visual effect of LED lighting source is more excellent than that of HPS light source. Therefore, to reach equal level of visual recognition of drivers, LED lighting source is more advantageous in energy conservation.
