Abstract:Speed limit is a necessary means for guaranteeing traffic safety in maintenance and repair areas of expressways, but too low speed limit values are easy to cause jamming and larger speed variance in operating areas, which on the contrary are not beneficial for safe traffic of vehicles. This paper obtains various factors influencing traffic capability in operating areas via analysis and proposes reasonable values of traffic capability in operating areas in accordance with the max. hourly traffic volume in operating areas to determine speed limit vaXues not affecting traffic capability under various operating conditions accordingly, and puts forward recommended driving speed in operating areas of expressways according to the relationship between traffic flow and speed.
