Abstract:We have investigated the application of aluminum alloy sheets to engine hood and removable roof panel (sport roof) to attain weight reduction for fuel economy improvement. It is necessary for mass production of automobiles that the body panel should have an excellent filiform corrosion resistance, capable of being treated simultaneously in the phosphating process with steel sheets. In order to achieve this, galvanized aluminum alloy sheet was developed. The details of how the galvanized aluminum alloy could prevent filiform corrosion and optimum conditions to obtain superior corrosion resistance against filiform corrosion are described in this paper.
