The management interviews identified six initiatives that the firms have used to overcome these basic problems: (1) boundary spanning, (2) education and training, (3) measurement perspective, (4)information substitution, (5) decision integration, and (6) process reengineering. Some of the initiatives are relatively easy and can be implemented in stages. Others, however, require a substantial up-front investment prior to implementation.
