Chongqing Reflections on the Impact ol License Restrictions and Future of EVs

I was recently in Chongqing to participate in the electric vehicle panel at the 2014 China Auto Chongqing Summit. The trip caused me to reflect on two government policies; restrictions on car registration and promotion of New Energy Vehicles. The first could havea huge negative impact on domestic brands, depending on how it is implemented. The second clearly faces many hurdles outside of China＇s Tier 1 cities. Clearly Chongqing is growing and its residents are becoming more well-off. But Chongqing is still less wealthy on a per capita GDP basis than, say, Shanghai. The cars on the road in Chongqing reflect that income disparity, but I think they also reflect the negative impact of government policies to reduce congestion.
