Abstract:The author states in the paper that the use of three-phase locomotives with asynchronous drive, the use of electric locomotive with asynchronous drive in particular, will benefit significantly in energy and economics, which will, in an important aspect, mitigate the contradiction between energy shortage and fast development of railway electrification, and will change the passive situation in energy and transportation. Technical-economical benefit brought by this type of locomotives in other countries are listed in the paper while suggesting an investment and a study on the development of AC locomo tives with asynchronous drive and their relative items.
