Abstract:The Xiaqiaohe River Bridge in Jingzhou is a 17-span barrel arch bridge which measures 378.6 m long and 26 m wide,with span lengths successively descending from 26 m of central spans to 18 m of end spans.The barrel arches are formed of reinforced concrete solid slabs with constant cross-section,creating rise-to-span ratio of 1∶2.The bridge features its supporting columns seating on arches and pile caps that were cast integral with the deck slabs in the field to form fixed connections.4 cm-wide in-situ deck joints were reserved on the tops of supporting columns that stand on the pile caps.The abutments and two central piers are capable of balancing the horizontal thrusts at the arch springs that are induced by vertical loads.The spandrel walls are made of reinforced skeletons and stone facades.To be integrated with the history and local culture of Jingzhou,the facades are decorated with architectural details of classical city walls,making the bridge look like a spandrel-filled arch bridge.The arches were grouped into three independent zones for the ease-of-construction,after the demolition of falsework installed for construction of arches,the construction of the spandrels began.
