Study on River Regulation of Grabel Shoals at the Upstream of the Fluctuating Backwayer Reach in the Three Gorge Reservoir

This paper describes the changes in hydrology and sediment movement and the hindrance in navigation due to the set-up of the reservoir, if Wangjiatan Reach with many shoals is located at upstream of the fluctuating backwater area of the Three Gorge Reservoir. From data analysis and model tests, the regulation principle of the gravel shoal at the upper reach of the fluctuating backwater area after the set-up of the reservoir is approached and its regulated level is established.
