Controlling release

From embedded polymer networks and starch coatings to nanotechnology systems, developing controlled ways of delivering drugs into the bloodstream is taking over drug discovery as the most widely practiced pharmaceutical science in Europe. At PharmSciFair, a new European exhibition of scientific drug research launched in June 2005 in France, more than 65 presentations revealed novel drug delivery mechanisms. A smaller number of presentations - fewer than 50 - were concerned with drug discovery.
