Abstract:FAO (Fully Automatic Operation) system based on CBTC (Communications Based Train Control) is an advanced transportation system that represents the development trend of urban rail transit and has been widely used all over the world.Compared with traditional system, FAO has many advantages, such as better reliability and safety, greater transportation capacity, higher train speed, low demand of rolling stocks and workers, low costs and better feasibility and interoperability, etc. The paper introduces the development, application, structure and features of FAO system, and gives some recommendations for FAO application.
